Susan Moring Named “Rising Star” by National Venture Capital Association

Moring is the first Oklahoman to be recognized by NVCA for this award

OKLAHOMA CITY — Each May, the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) recognizes outstanding individuals in venture capital at their NVCA Leadership Gala. This year, Cortado Ventures Principal Susan Moring is being recognized with the Rising Star Award.

The Rising Star Award recognizes the next generation of venture capital professionals who are establishing themselves as future standard bearers of the industry. Recipients of the award have demonstrated a mastery of venture capital investing gleaned through a relatively short amount of time in the industry and are widely recognized by their peers and others as emerging leaders of the venture capital industry.

“I can’t think of someone more deserving of this honor than Susan,” said Cortado Ventures’ Managing Partner, Nathaniel Harding. “Her business acumen and dedication to cultivating a thriving, varied startup ecosystem in the region is invaluable. All of us at Cortado Ventures are more than thrilled for Susan to be recognized for all of her contributions. Congratulations, Susan!”

As principal of Cortado Ventures, Moring is a key player in identifying and nurturing the Oklahoma City-based firm’s portfolio of early-stage startups. She is integral to Cortado’s strategy for sourcing diverse deals and its commitment to building a collaborative startup ecosystem focused on growth and economic prosperity in the Midcontinent region.

A startup enthusiast, Moring has spent the bulk of her career supporting entrepreneurs and contributing to the growth of Oklahoma’s startup ecosystem. Prior to her work with Cortado Ventures, she worked at the University of Oklahoma’s Ronnie K. Irani Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth, where she consulted with dozens of Oklahoma entrepreneurs, launched a social entrepreneurship accelerator in Oklahoma City, and grew the state’s first coding bootcamp, OK Coders. She is a Board Director for the Oklahoma Venture Forum and she works nationally with Techstars on entrepreneurial programming and events.

Recipients must be in the early-to-mid stages of their careers, at an NVCA member firm and may not have reached the title of general partner, managing director or managing general partner (or equivalent).
